Programme:

Day 1 -  Thursday May 18

The tour begins in the afternoon of May 18 in La Morra, a town rich in history, surrounded by medieval ramparts. It sits atop a hill and enjoys a splendid view of the entire Langhe region. The vineyards around La Morra are the sources of Iwilo wines and are among the finest wine producers in the region.

We will visit the village and its surroundings, enjoy the magnificent view of the Langhe and taste wines in a small family-run wine cellar. Overnight stay will be in La Morra in a lovely inn after a typical dinner.

Day 2 - Friday May 19

A refreshing trek through the vineyards will take us to another Iwilo winemaker; after the visit of his winery, wine tasting enriched with typical local dishes will be our reward of the walk.

In the afternoon, let’s discover Grinzane Castle and Cavour. Built in the 11th century, the Castle of Grinzane Cavour offers a splendid panorama of the Langhe hills, with its unmistakable architecture. Over the centuries, the castle has belonged to various noble Piedmontese families, including Count Benso di Cavour, a famous hero of the Risorgimento. The castle will open for us its doors and its surrounding vineyards; a specialized guide will tell us how the locals changed the history of the region and give birth to the most famous wine, Barolo.

In the evening, the village of Monforte d'Alba will host us. It is a small medieval village, recently labeled as “most beautiful villages in Italy”. Steep streets climb up to its square and the famous open-air amphitheater, with a view of the surrounding vineyards: a small but marvelous village encompassing a millenary history. A special dinner at Le Case della Saracca, a restaurant built between stone walls and hand-carved caves, will catapult you directly into the Middle Ages!

Day 3 - Saturday May 20

The king of wines or wine of kings! Barolo is not only the name of this delicious wine, but also the name of a village. The village lies in a basin adorned with panoramic hills covered with vineyards, now a Unesco heritage site, from which breathtaking horizons can be seen. We will trek through the surrounding vineyards to admire and enjoy the unique beauty of this area.

The last visit of an Iwilo producer is planned in the afternoon. He will personally show you the entire production process, from growing the grapes to bottling, and how he combines the respect for tradition and the most modern techniques.

To close the day, a tasting game at the Cantina Comunale di La Morra will get you to select the wines to be proposed in the future Iwilo discovery boxes. A dinner prepared by the most renowned chef of the area will close the 2023 Iwilo tour !

Price for this 3-day Langhe discovery tour: 585 euro per person

(The tour includes 3 nights of bed and breakfast, lunches and dinners, treks, visits and wine tastings, but transport is not included).

Terms and conditions

To book the tour, interested participants are invited to complete the registration form and make a deposit of 100 euros per person by March 30. A confirmation of the booking details will be sent by email, and the remaining balance should be paid by April 15.
